A LITTLE BIT ABOUT
ALTADENA

Welcome to Altadena

An unincorporated area surrounded by the stunning San Gabriel Mountains, this unique community of Altadena combines a close-to-nature feel with the nearby urban convenience of Pasadena.

The Neighbors

Altadena is one of the most integrated communities in Southern California.

Many young professionals live in Altadena, and residents tend to lean liberal.

Artists and writers add to Altadena’s population of blue and white-collar workers and their families.

What to Expect

Altadena’s picturesque mountain community offers a bustling town center as well, with diverse restaurants and shopping to explore!

Living in Altadena offers residents a sparse suburban feel in addition to many coffee shops, restaurants, and parks.

The Lifestyle

A rural community feel with the advantage of nearby large city amenities.

Just 3.5 miles due north of the world-renowned city of Pasadena, the community of Altadena is surrounded on three sides by the Arroyo Seco, Angeles National Forest and Eaton Canyon, all servicing countless hiking as well as equestrian trails.  Horses are often seen clopping along the streets and even stabled in some Altadena backyards due to the many large residential properties and a horse-friendly County government.

Unexpected Appeal

Advantages of living in an unincorporated area.

Altadena as an unincorporated town, has many benefits, especially for those who want added freedom over how they can use their home and their land. These benefits can include extra privacy, more real estate flexibility, and an opportunity to live without additional government regulation.

The Market

Most residents own their own homes, from beautiful historic to modern wonders.

Altadena is architecturally diverse, with examples from modest Craftsman bungalows to Italianate mansions and Modernist gems.  The Golden Poppy Awards are presented annually by Altadena’s Heritage Advocacy and Preservation.  These awards are presented to residents with beautiful gardens that “give to the street” of their neighborhood, enhancing the community for everyone.

Historic Christmas Tree Lane.

Each December, 110 deodar cedar trees lining Santa Rosa Ave glow with thousands of Christmas lights!   A California Historical Landmark and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, Christmas Tree Lane has been a holiday attraction since 1920.  It is the oldest large-scale outdoor Christmas lighting venue in the world!
